Cassis is a charming meditarranean fishing port approximately 20 km east of Marseille in the south of France. Its beautiful beaches and towering limestone coastal cliffs are part of the French Riviera and worth a visit. It is a popular summer destination as the weather is very hot in this part of France. It was 35 degrees celsius when I recorded the audioscape of this impressive beach located just a short walk away from the portside strip, lined with shops and restaurants.

Glastonbury Tor Drummers

Glastonbury Tor Drummers

Date recorded: August 15, 2023

Duration – 12:22

The hill upon which stands the Glastonbury Tor rises 518 feet above the surrounding area, and offers a wonderful 360 degree view of the countryside, including the town of Glastonbury which sits at its base. There are many mysteries and legends connected to the Tor, and has been throughout the centuries, a magnet for pagans and christians, and its spiritual backbone is still evident with the many esoteric shops and stores selling everything from crystals and oils to hooded cloaks… which are normal attire for some locals. Glastonbury is quite a unique place. The hill is believed to be the famous Isle of Avalon and the Glastonbury Abbey is said to be the final resting place for King Arthur. There is rumoured to be a hidden cave system beneath the hill where one can venture to the fairy realm of Annwn. It is also said to be the final resting place of the holy grail, brought there by Joseph of Arimathea.

We first went up the hill during the daytime and I was told by a local resident that there are often drummers that come play in the evening inside the Tor. I decided to make the climb a second time that evening and was treated to an interesting drumming jam session complete with dancers and people enjoying the vibe in and around the Tor in a magical atmosphere.

I recorded part of the session inside the Tor and captured the enchanting acoustics of this famous landmark.

Tintagel Castle is the now the remains of a medieval fortress located in North Cornwall. It is accessible via 2 impressive footbridges and a trail that decends to the small beach where is located Merlin’s cave. Legend states that it is the birth place of King Arthur, and the cave situated underneath the castle was home to the wizard Merlin, where apparently he snatched the baby Arthur out of the water.
